This Weekend
The Bulldogs return home to the Lee Amphitheater this weekend to host Columbia on Friday and Cornell on Saturday. Yale split a pair of road matches last weekend with a victory over Penn and a loss at Princeton that snapped an eight-match win streak. Entering the weekend, the Bulldogs stand at 4-1 in league play behind first-place Cornell. Defense Delivers
The Bulldogs lead the Ivy League in multiple defensive statistical categories: opponents' hitting percentage (.173), kills by opponents per set (11.50), assists by opponents per set (10.62) and service aces by opponents per set (0.75).
Middles Stand Out
Middle blockers Izzy Simqu and Samantha Bray both produced impressive numbers at the net last weekend. Bray, a sophomore who earned All-Ivy status last season, had 17 kills, hit .417 and tallied eight total blocks. Simqu, the team's captain, also had 17 kills and hit .333 with two blocks. Bray earned a spot on the weekly Ivy League Honor Rol.
100-100 Club
Junior Kathryn Attar and sophomore Ellis DeJardin both have over 100 kills and 100 digs on the season. Attar has 104 digs and leads the team with 127 kills. DeJardin has 126 kills and 141 digs.Â
Home Cooking
Since the start of the 2013 season, the Bulldogs' home record is 61-9 overall and 42-4 against Ivy League teams. Yale is 7-0 at home this season after a 10-0 mark in 2018.
Scouting the Opponents
Columbia (10-5, 3-2 Ivy) - The Lions are led by Chichi Ikwuazom, who has been named league player of the week four times this season. Â
Cornell (12-2, 5-0 Ivy) - Cornell enters the weekend winners of 10 straight matches and play at Brown on Friday evening. Emma Worthington was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for her efforts last weekend. Â
