The Bulldogs put together one of their most complete
performances of the season with a sweep of Cornell on Friday night
at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. With scores of 25-13, 25-17,
25-13, the Bulldogs improved to 9-7 overall, 3-2 in the Ivy League
and 6-0 at home this season.
Yale posted a .336 hitting percentage for the match, played with
intensity and trailed only briefly during the night.

Wessels hit a match-high 12 kills and hit .667 for the match
for Yale, which also received 10 kills from Erica
Reetz and Katie
Cordell. Kendall
Polan added 23 assists, eight digs and six kills.
"We played team volleyball tonight," Yale head coach Erin
Appleman said. "Everybody contributed and that's always nice to
see."
After a back-and-forth start to the third set, Yale exploded for
five straight points to take an 11-4 lead. Polan gave Yale
its biggest lead of the set, 24-11, with a kill.
Cornell (3-11, 1-4 Ivy) capitalized on an attack error and a
Kelly Hansen kill for the next two points, but Reetz closed out the
match off an assist from Polan.
Hansen led Cornell with eight kills and a .500 hitting
percentage.
Yale hit .438 in the second game and cruised to a 25-17
victory. Cordell set the tone with back-to-back kills to
start the set and hit .667 with five kills during the frame.
With Yale up 8-4, the Bulldogs ran off six straight points to
take a double-digit advantage. The run culminated with a
Polan kill setup by Kerry
Clavadetscher.
Cornell chipped away and cut the lead to 19-11.
After Hansen struck for two kills, Yale regained control.
Cordell responded with a kill, and on the next point, Ozurovich
followed with a diving dig that set up a Reetz kill to give Yale a
21-13 edge.
Ozurovich (13), Cordell (13) and Reetz (11) each produced
double-digit dig totals.
Hansen had a team-best five kills and hit .500 during the second
set for the Big Red.
Reetz would end the set with a pair of kills, which were set up
by Cramm and Polan.
In the first set, Yale started fast. The Bulldogs scored
the first six points, capped by a Hearst kill. Cordell
increased the lead to 10-2 with a service ace.
Hearst concluded a run of four straight points with a kill, gave
Yale a 16-8 lead and forced a Cornell timeout. The Big Red
would score the next point, but Taylor
Cramm slammed a kill off a Polan assist. Kills from
Cramm, Cordell, Hearst and Wessels helped increase Yale's lead to
21-9.
Yale returns to action tomorrow night at home against
Columbia. The match begins at 6 p.m.
