Y150 Completes Racing in Finals at National Championships

CAMDEN, N.J. – The Yale Lightweight Crew completed its season Sunday morning at the IRA National Championship, which saw the JV compete in the Grand Final and the varsity in the Petite Final. The official results placed the Bulldog crews at sixth and eighth in the nation, respectively.

 JV
The Yale JV eight faced entries from Harvard, Penn, Columbia, Princeton, and Dartmouth in a 10:10 a.m. Grand Final. Taking on the field from lane six, the Bulldogs matched the pack off the start and through the first few hundred meters, but eventually dropped back to battle the crew from Dartmouth. Through the middle 1000m, Yale gradually fell off the pace, eventually taking sixth place overall—improving upon their placement at last year's national championship. Harvard took first place for the second consecutive year and was followed by Penn, Columbia, Princeton and Dartmouth.

Varsity
The 11:20 a.m. varsity eight Petite Final featured crews from Yale, Georgetown, and Columbia. Georgetown was hot off the start, taking a few seats' lead on the field in the first few dozen strokes. Both Yale and Columbia settled at a high rate, keeping contact with the Hoyas. After the 1000m mark, however, Georgetown pulled away, eventually enjoying open water on Yale and Columbia. From there, the Yale varsity crew separated from Columbia, ultimately taking second place in the Petite Final and eighth overall, matching their result from last year. In the Grand Final, Harvard took first, followed by Dartmouth, MIT, Penn, Princeton and Navy.
