PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown broke a 9-9 third-quarter tie Saturday with a 5-1 run that proved decisive, sending the No. 7 Yale women's lacrosse team to its first loss in Ivy League play in two years. The final was 14-11.
A sunny but windy day at Stevenson-Pincince Field saw a closely played first quarter in which neither team led by more than two goals. Yale (7-2, 1-1 Ivy League) was eventually able to build an 8-4 lead in the second quarter, but Brown (6-2, 1-1 Ivy League) scored the final four goals of that quarter and the first goal of the third quarter to take a 9-8 lead.
Yale senior midfielder
Taylor Lane tied the game 9-9 early in the third, but Brown then held the Bulldogs scoreless for nearly 10 minutes and went ahead 11-9. After senior attacker
Taylor Everson pulled Yale within 11-10 with 24 seconds left in the third, Brown outscored Yale 3-0 in the first 12:51 of the fourth to seize control.
A late goal by Yale senior attacker
Jenna Collignon made the final 14-11. The Bears mobbed goalkeeper Claire Mahoney (10 saves in relief, playing the final three quarters) to celebrate the win.
