FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Yale baseball team remained hot with a dominant 12-3 win over Fairfield on Wednesday afternoon at Cook Field. The Bulldogs put up double digit runs for the fifth time in the last six games and took advantage of sloppy pitching and defense from the Stags.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 5-1 over their last six and sport an overall of 12-17. Fairfield drops to 17-18 with the loss.
How it Happened
- Top 2nd | The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with four unearned runs, following an error by the Stags. Chace Chaplin and Alec Atkinson both tallied RBI singles.
- Bottom 3rd | Fairfield scored two runs to cut into the Yale lead.
- Top 4th | Yale broke open the game with five runs in the inning following two more errors by Fairfield.
- Top 5th | Davis Hanson smacked a solo shot to left to extend the Yale lead to 10-2.
- Top 7th | Kaiden Dossa singled home two runs to balloon the lead to 12-2.
- Bottom 8th | Fairfield added one run to conclude the 12-3 loss.
Game Notes
- Yale picked up its first win over Fairfield since 2018, snapping a two-game losing streak against the Stags.
- The Bulldogs offense has been outstanding of late. After scoring 60 runs over the first 19 games of the season, the Elis have crossed the plate 99 times over the last 10.
- Fairfield really struggled in pitching and defense throughout the game. The Stags committed six errors and walked 10 batters while allowing 11 unearned runs.
- Chaplin started the game on the mound for the Bulldogs, allowing two runs over two innings. Carter Kessinger came on in relief to pitch three scoreless frames, earning his second win of the season. Josh Richardson, Chris DiPrima and Teo Spadaccini closed out the game for Yale.
- Hanson hit his team-leading sixth home run. The sophomore reached base four times.
- Jeff Pierantoni reached base three times, extending his on-base streak to 17 games.
