Taylor, Muscolina Highlight Bulldogs' Doubleheader Win Over Harvard

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Behind two dominant performances in the circle by Emma Taylor, the Yale softball team ousted Harvard, 2-1 and 9-1, at 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium. The Bulldogs' record improved to 5-14 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy, while Harvard moved to 9-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Game 1: Yale 2, Harvard 1
  • B2 | Willa Ferrer's single to right center scored pinch runner Ava Kang for the game's first run. With two outs and one on, Carolyn Skotz singled through the right side to score Ferrer's pinch runner Gretchen Bunovsky for the two-run lead.
  • T7 | With no outs and runners on the corners, the Crimson hit into a doubleplay situation, scoring on the play to split the Bulldogs' lead. The Yale defense shut down Harvard's comeback attempt and held on for the victory.

Game 2: Yale 9, Harvard 1
  • T1 | Harvard was the first team on the scoresheet in game two, scoring on a fielder's choice.
  • B1 | Yale responded in the bottom half of the inning. Isabella Fortini hit a lead-off double to left center to get things going for the home side. Fortini moved over on a sacrifice bunt, and Lauren Perren worked the count to earn first. In the next at bat, Perren stole second, drawing the throw from the catcher and allowing Fortini to sneak by and score to tie it.
  • B4 | Two and a half innings past as neither team could get the bats going. The Bulldogs' rally in the bottom of the fourth was ignited by Libby Peoples' two-run home run to right center, 3-1. Yale added two more runs to extend its lead to four run on five total hits in the inning.
  • B6 | Yale loaded the bases with no outs on two singles and a walk as Carmen Muscolina came in to pinch hit for Elena Ohe. On a 2-2 count, Muscolina blasted a grand slam to left field that called game and run ruled the Crimson in game two.
