NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The annual Yale cross country banquet is a time to celebrate the Bulldogs' accomplishments throughout the season and to transition leadership for the upcoming year. Following a team vote, 2024 women's cross country captain
Kylie Goldfarb passed the captaincy to
Linde Fonville, who will lead the team in the 2025 season. Fonville has consistently exemplified outstanding leadership and teamwork, both on and off the course, throughout her time at Yale.
Over the past three years, Fonville has shown unwavering commitment to the team. She has competed across various distances in all three seasons (including indoor and outdoor track and field) and has made a strong comeback from injury to become a consistent scorer. Balancing athletics with academics, Fonville excels in both areas. While she is a formidable competitor at meets, she also brings enthusiasm and a collaborative spirit to daily practices, always challenging herself and supporting her teammates.
Fonville's progress at the Ivy League Championships has been remarkable. After finishing 77th in 2022 and 26th in 2023, she claimed 10th place this year with a personal best of 20:33.4, earning second team All-Ivy honors. Throughout the 2024 season, Fonville consistently ranked among Yale's top two runners, contributing to the team's scoring in every race she participated in.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Fonville attended Charlotte Country Day before coming to Yale, where she served as the cross country team captain in 2020 and 2021. A versatile athlete, she set school records in a variety of outdoor track events, including the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m, DMR, SMR, 800m, 1600m, mile and 3200m. In addition to her athletic achievements, Fonville was dedicated to community service, volunteering with local organizations like RunningWorks and BabyBundles in Charlotte.
Under Fonville's leadership, 2025 is sure to be a special year for the women's cross country team.
