HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Yale women's basketball team hung with Hofstra well into the third quarter Tuesday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Neither team led by more than six points until just 2:15 remained in the third, when a free throw gave Hofstra a 54-47 lead. But that point wound up being part of a 13-0 run that effectively put the game out of reach, with the Pride eventually finishing off a 75-61 win. The Bulldogs were led by 17 points from junior guard
Kiley Capstraw.
Neither team led by more than three in the first quarter. The Bulldogs went into the first break up 14-11 after scoring the final six points of the frame. They held Hofstra scoreless for the final 5:05, with the Pride missing six shots in that span – including two blocks by senior guard/forward
Mackenzie Egger and one by Capstraw.
Hofstra (2-1, 0-0 CAA) led by as many as six in the second quarter before Yale went on a 16-9 run to take a one-point lead. That would be the Bulldogs' final lead of the night, however. Hofstra scored the final four points of the second quarter and the first two of the third quarter.
Yale (1-2, 0-0 Ivy League) would eventually tie the game 39-39 on a three-pointer by Capstraw at the 7:15 mark of the third, but a 6-0 Hofstra run started to put some distance between the two teams. The Pride outscored Yale 19-14 in the fourth to finish off the win.
