NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A second-quarter surge by Stony Brook ultimately proved to be too much for the Yale women's basketball team Friday night at Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs led 14-11 after the first quarter, but the Seawolves outscored Yale 22-8 in the second en route to claiming a 62-48 win.
Yale (1-3, 0-0 Ivy League) limited Stony Brook (2-1, 0-0 CAA) to a .263 shooting performance in the first quarter, leading by as many as seven before a late Stony Brook run. The Seawolves then heated up and shot .467 over the next two quarters to grab a commanding lead that grew to as many as 16 points in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was an even affair, 16-16, but that was not enough to get the Bulldogs back in the game.

QUOTING DALILA ESHE,
YALE'S JOEL E. SMILOW, CLASS OF 1954 HEAD COACH OF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
- "We have a very young team. Stony Brook went on a large [scoring] run, and we couldn't match them point-for-point. We had a hard time settling back down."
- "Grace [Thybulle] had a really solid game, and carried it over from [the previous game at] Hofstra. Grace and Mack [Egger], our two post players, have been consistent. We know what we're going to get from them night-in and night-out."
- "Our guards are young. We have to throw them into the fire. We can be a significantly better team, but we have to grow quickly."
