Bulldogs Open Season with Monmouth, then Head to Michigan State

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The 2024-25 season starts with a pair of challenging games this week for the Yale women's basketball team, as the Bulldogs face two opponents who are coming off 20 win seasons and appearances in national postseason tournaments. The Bulldogs host Monmouth Monday (5:00 p.m., ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats, Tickets). They then head to Michigan State Friday (7:00 p.m., B1G+, Live Stats, Tickets).

The Bulldogs will look to continue positive year-to-year trends in shooting from last year. They improved their shooting percentage by 21 percentage points from 2022-23 to 2023-24 (.369 to .390). They improved their free throw shooting by 18 percentage points (from .660 to .678).
 
Roster Refresh
Yale has added five first years and one transfer to the roster this year. The Bulldogs have four seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and five first years.
 
A Homecoming for Mackenzie Egger
Friday's game will be a homecoming for senior guard Mackenzie Egger (Mount Pleasant, Mich.), a Michigan native. Egger was the Female Student-Athlete of the Year at Mount Pleasant High School, where she was team captain as a junior and senior. She was the fourth player in school history to reach 1,000 points, was the Saginaw Valley League Conference Co-MVP as a senior and was a three-time team MVP.
 
Scouting Monmouth
Monmouth ended last season with a 22-10 record (14-4 CAA), making the Hawks one of seven 20 win teams (nine games) on Yale's 2024-25 schedule. That included a 13-3 mark in road games. They beat Buffalo 68-58 in the first round of the WNIT before falling to Duquesne 69-65 in overtime in the second round. The Hawks were picked to finish 10th in the preseason CAA poll.
 
Scouting Michigan State
Michigan State, which hosts Oakland on Tuesday, is coming off a 2023-24 season in which the Spartans went 22-9 overall (12-6 Big 10). They fell to North Carolina 59-56 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans return two All-Big Ten selections in first-team All-Big Ten guard/forward Julia Ayrault and Sixth Player of the Year guard Theryn Hallock.
