NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore
Carina DiAntonio scored just 25 seconds into overtime off a pass from
Elle Hartje, to give the Yale women's ice hockey team a 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac. The contest held special meaning for the Bulldogs, as the game was held in honor of Mandi Schwartz '10, a former Yale women's ice hockey player, who passed away after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia on April 3, 2011, at the age of 23.
The Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak and picked up their first top-10 victory of the season by defeating the No. 8 Bobcats. Yale improves to 11-11-0 with a 8-7-0 conference record. Quinnipiac fell to 21-6-1 with a 10-6-0 mark in the ECAC.
"Tonight was a great game with lots of back-and-forth action," said
Mark Bolding, Susan Cavanaugh Head Coach of Women's Hockey. "We didn't let their goal deflate our spirits and we had great energy in the third period with a couple of great plays with Vita and Elle connecting when we really needed it on both goals."
