The Yale softball team takes a quick trip home before embarking on a road swing. The Bulldogs host Penn in Ivy League play at 5K Corral Field. The pair will square off for a doubleheader on Saturday before returning to the diamond for a single game on Easter Sunday.
 
Scouting the Bulldogs
  • Yale is 11-15 overall and 4-5 in the Ivy League.
  • The Bulldogs are 3-2 in their last five games, which includes two conference wins over Cornell last weekend. 
  • Carolyn Skotz has reached base in three-straight games for the Bulldogs. The captain leads the team and Ivy in runs scored (21) and walks (19).
  • Libby Peoples has exploded in her debut season. The first year is tied for first in the Ivy in doubles (10), in addition to her 21 hits, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored.
  • Emma Taylor has been a workhorse for the Bulldogs in the circle, hurling 61 total innings. The first year has a team-high 42 strikeouts and made 16 appearances, including eight starts.
 
Last Year Against Penn
  • Penn took two of the three games in last year's series in Philadelphia. After the Bulldogs opened with a 5-4 victory, the Quakers closed it out with an 8-0 and a 9-1 victory, both in five innings.

Scouting the Quakers
  • Penn is 3-27 overall and 1-8 in the Ivy League.
  • The Quakers are 1-4 in their last five outings. Their lone victory in that span was a 6-3 upset over the top team in the Ivy, Princeton. 
  • Sarah Schneider leads Penn in multiple categories including hit (29), average (.333), slugging percentage (.552), on base percentage (.385), RBI (15), home runs (3), doubles (10), and total bases (48). 
  • Sammy Fenton and Brianna Brown are also solid offensive contributors for Penn. Fenton is second on the team in hits (25), RBI (14), and doubles (6), while Brown has a team-high 15 runs scored, second alongside Fenton in hits with 15, and is a perfect 13-for-13 in swipes on the base path.
  • Kelly Zybura has seen the most time in the circle for the Quakers with 23 appearances and 86.1 innings pitched.
     
Ivy League Honors
  • After having a tremendous week for the Bulldogs that saw them go 3-1, including two wins in Ivy play, Carolyn Skotz was named Ivy League Player of the Week.
  • The captain went 9-for-17 at the plate putting her at a .529 batting average to go along with a .529 on base percentage and a .647 slugging percentage. Additionally, she knocked in five RBI, scored four runs and stole two bases.
  • Both Libby Peoples and Emma Taylor were named to the honor roll for their performances against Fairfield and Cornell.

Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs return home for a three-game set against Penn on April 8-9 at 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium.
