NEW HAVEN, Conn. – This summer, the Bulldogs are taking a break from the books and are embarking on experiences away from the Yale campus. Check in with some members of the Yale softball team and see how they are spending their summer break.
This week, hear from rising senior
Mariah Niday to see what she is up to!
Â
Hi everyone! My name is Mariah Niday, and I'm a senior catcher from Brighton, Colorado. I'm a proud gnome of Davenport College, majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Biomechanics and Mechanobiology. Outside of classes and softball, I help run a line dance club on campus called the Society of Scootin' Boot!Â
I'm spending most of my summer in New Haven, which gave me the chance to spend the first few weeks with last year's seniors—hanging out, making great memories, and soaking in those final moments before they graduated. After they left, I started a campus job with Yale Conferences & Events, which has been such a fun and rewarding experience! I've had the chance to work with amazing coworkers and gather plenty of stories from helping support the many different programs that visit Yale throughout the summer.Â
In early July, I was able to head home to Colorado for a few days to see my family before returning to Connecticut for the rest of the month. One of the most exciting parts of the second half of my summer is starting research at the med school. I'm fortunate to have joined a team studying bone fragment fixation in the knee, and I'm really looking forward to seeing where the project leads as we move into the fall!Â
I've truly loved living in New Haven this summer. Getting to see campus in a whole new light, exploring new places, training every day at our gym and field, and spending time with friends who stayed local has been amazing. In my free time, I've been visiting museums, reading around campus, heading to the beach, and finding all sorts of spontaneous adventures to break up the day. One of the best parts has been spending time with my teammates and hearing about all the incredible things they've been doing—they make me so proud to be a Bulldog.Â
To wrap up the summer, I'll be helping run our team's camp the first weekend of August before heading home for a couple of weeks, then returning to New Haven for move-in. I'm beyond excited for my final season with the Bulldogs and can't wait to see everything we'll accomplish this year!Â
