Bulldogs Sweep Doubleheader at Dartmouth

Yale uses an 11-run inning and late-game heroics in Hanover

HANOVER, N.H. – Yale tied a season-high with 16 runs scored in game one and won game two in extras to sweep a doubleheader at Dartmouth on Saturday.

Yale won game one 16-3, and won the nightcap 7-2 in 10.  The two teams will finish the series tomorrow with a single game beginning at noon.

In game two, the Bulldogs trailed 2-0 entering the eighth.  Jake Williams singled home Hayden Sobecki to make it 2-1.

In the ninth, Ben Metzner, who went 3 for 4 in the game, singled and eventually scored on a throwing error to tie the game.  Josh Richardson (2-0) came on to throw a scoreless ninth and send the game to extras.

Jimmy Chatfield led off the 10th with a walk and advanced to second on a Davis Hanson single.  Hanson had a hit in both games today and extended his hit streak to 10 games.

Jake Williams reached base on a sac bunt fielder's choice, and moved Chatfield to second and Hanson to third. Jeff Pierantoni followed with a sac fly to score Chatfield and give Yale the lead.

The Bulldogs would score five in the 10th, including a Tommy Martin run-scoring single and a Beck Milner two-run double.  Richardson pitched a scoreless 10th to earn his second win of the season.

Colton Shaw started and went the first seven innings and allowed only one earned run.  Bryant Reese pitched a scoreless eighth to keep Yale close.

In game one, seven Bulldogs scored at least two runs, and five more had at least two hits in an offensive outburst in game one.  The game was capped by an 11-run ninth inning for Yale.

Martin homered and went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBI.  Milner also went 2 for 3 and drove in three while scoring twice.

Reid Easterly earned his fourth win of the season. He allowed one earned run and struck out eight over seven innings.
