NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale softball team lost a pair of close games to Harvard on Friday afternoon at 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium. Harvard won the opener 3-1, and took game two 1-0.
Maddie Latta and
Nicole Conway both pitched complete games for Yale. Latta also had two hits while pitching game one.
In the opener, Harvard scored two in the third and added an insurance run in the sixth. The Bulldogs scored their lone run in the fifth.
Carmen Muscolina led off the fifth inning with a single to center and
Sophie Woodridge followed with a hit to left. With runners on first and second,
Carolyn Skotz dropped a bunt single that forced an error and allowed Muscolina to score.
Latta beat out an infield single with two out in the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate. Latta gave up one earned run and two hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
In game two, Harvard broke a scoreless tie in the seventh with an unearned run. The Yale game-two starter, Conway scattered seven hits and struck out two without walking a batter.
Yale's best chance to score came in the second.
Grayson Vives reached on an error and
Alex Perren followed with a single to left before the final out was recorded. Muscolina, who also had a hit in the opener, added a two-out single in the fourth.
The Bulldogs and Crimson wrap up the series on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in New Haven.
