Maddie Latta pitched into the sixth and
Sam Goodcase homered to lead Yale to a 4-3 victory over Harvard on Sunday afternoon at 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium.
Latta went 5 and 2/3 innings, retired 11 in a row at one point and struck out seven without issuing a walk. Â
Nicole Conway went the final inning and a 1/3 and tossed a perfect seventh to earn her first save of the year.
Latta helped herself as well and kickstarted the offense to a two-run first-inning. Â She led off the game for Yale with a single.
Katie Donahey followed Latta with a single of her own. Â Goodcase sacrificed both runners into scoring position. Â
Carmen Muscolina drove in Latta on a ground out, and
Lauren Perren doubled home Donahey to make it 2-0 after one.Â
With two outs in the third, Goodcase slammed a solo homer to left to make it 3-0. Â Perren delivered her second hit of the game and doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on a
Miranda Papes hit. Â
Harvard got one back in the fifth and scored twice in the sixth before Conway entered. Â Conway got the final out of the sixth and tossed a 1-2-3 seventh.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday to host Central Connecticut for a doubleheader. Â First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
