NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs take to the road again this weekend looking to stretch their win streak and maintain their early hold on the Ivy League standings. Yale travels to Harvard on Friday and to Dartmouth on Saturday.Â
Yale defeated Columbia and Cornell last weekend to improve to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. In addition, the Bulldogs pushed their current win streak to nine.Â
The Bulldogs were efficient in both victories last weekend. Yale hit .407 at Columbia and .408 at Cornell -- both matches resulting in 3-0 sweeps.Â
Gigi Barr against the Big Red had a match-high 13 kills and hit .591, while adding 10 kills and hitting .444 against the Lions. For her efforts over the weekend, Barr earned a spot on the Ivy League weekly honor roll.Â
Other standout hitters last weekend included
Fatima Samb, who had 10 kills on 15 swings with only two errors.Â
Cara Shultz had 17 kills, 15 digs and four service aces. Â
The Bulldogs continue to spread the wealth on offense. Entering the weekend, four hitters have over 100 kills on the season --
Mila Yarich (147), Shultz (123),
Audrey Leak (123) and Barr (111). Â
On defense,
Maile Somera ranks third in the conference with a 4.09 digs per set average in Ivy play. Somera had 22 digs over six sets in the two victories last weekend.Â
With the strong non-conference record (8-1) and fast start in the Ivy League, the Bulldogs entered the week with a national RPI of 48. Â
After this weekend, the Bulldogs return to New Haven for their first home match since Sept. 17. The Bulldogs will host Penn and Princeton next weekend.Â
Scouting Harvard
The Crimson (2-9, 1-2 Ivy) defeated Penn in five and lost at Princeton 3-1. Senior captain Bella Almanza and first-year Hannah Nguyen were named to the Ivy League honor roll the week of Oct. 3 for their performances in last weekend's matches. Katie Vorhies leads the team with a 3.23 kills per set average.
Scouting Dartmouth
The Big Green (10-3, 2-1 Ivy) lost to Princeton and defeated Penn last weekend. Ellie Blain leads the team with 3.32 kills per set average. Amelia Gibbs was named to the conference honor roll on Monday for her efforts last weekend. Â
