Yale Hosts Harvard Saturday

NO FAN ATTENDANCE AT THIS GAME

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's basketball team hosts its first Ivy League home game of the season this weekend, with Harvard visiting Lee Amphitheater Saturday (4:00 p.m., NESN, ESPN+, Live Stats).

Last Game
Yale (7-6, 0-1 Ivy League) led Columbia by as many as 12 last Sunday in New York, but the Lions ultimately rallied for a 65-55 win in the Ivy League opener. The Bulldog defense limited Columbia to a .286 shooting percentage through the first three quarters, but Columbia shot .462 and scored 25 points in the fourth for the victory. Sophomore guard Jenna Clark (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led Yale with 18 points, four assists and three steals.

Defense Makes it Difficult
Sunday marked the third time in the last four games that Yale has held its opponent to a .323 or lower shooting percentage. That span also includes a game at LIU in which Yale limited the Sharks to a .259 shooting percentage, the lowest for any Bulldog opponent this season. For the season as a whole Yale has held its opponents to a .375 shooting percentage, second-best in the Ivy League.

No Second Chances
Going hand-in-hand with excellent defense, Yale also controls the boards defensively. The Bulldogs are second in the Ivy League in defensive rebounds per game (27.5). Junior forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) has 86 defensive rebounds – 12 more than any other player in the Ivy League.

Cade on a Rebounding Spree
Senior forward Alex Cade (Shaker Heights, Ohio) has 33 rebounds in her last four games (8.25 per game), including 10 in just 19 minutes in the win at LIU Dec. 8. For the season she is second on the team and sixth in the Ivy League in rebounds per game (7.3). That marks a dramatic improvement from her average in her previous season – she averaged 2.5 rebounds per game in 2019-20.

Scoring Options
Yale is one of three Ivy League teams with three players averaging 10.0 or more points per game. Five different Bulldogs have reached the 14 point mark at least once in a game this season, with a season high of 26 for junior forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) (twice). She leads the team with 15.6 points per game, third in the Ivy League.

Blocks Records in Jeopardy
Junior forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) has been blocking shots at a prolific rate since she arrived at Yale, and that has her nearing some impressive achievements. Her 151 career blocks have her 31 away from the school record set by Erica Davis '07. Emsbo already has three of the top eight single-season block totals in school history; her 62 blocks in 2019-20 were one away from Davis' school record, set in 2006-07. Emsbo is averaging 2.85 blocks per game, which puts her on pace for a school-record 74 this season.
