Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Women's Soccer Team put on a great show at Reese Stadium today on Senior Day despite a 3-2 loss to No. 22 Brown.
Chloe Laureano had a goal and an assist as the Bulldogs hung tough with the league unbeaten before the Bears won it with a late tally.
The Elis got on the scoreboard first on a pretty crossing pass from
Ellie Rappole to Laureano. Senior
Sarah Jordan started the sequence by finding Rappole, who dribbled into the 18-yard box on the right side and then spotted Laureano sprinting in on the opposite side. Rappole put the ball on the sophomore's foot 10 feet from the goal for a 1-0 lead.
Brown, which had not allowed a goal in three straight games, rebounded from the great Yale play with two straight goals, including a penalty kick. However, the Elis did not go away, and Laureano's corner kick midway through the first half found the head of first-year
Nana Yang, who flicked it into the upper corner for her initial collegiate tally.
First-year goalie
Maya Bellomo made six saves, and there were a number of challenging ones facing the 2021 Ivy League Champions, who had three goals from Brittany Raphino.
Today's contest began with a special celebration of Yale's Class of 2022, including members
Reina Bonta,
Saje Brar,
Kristen Enriquez,
Mia Grillo, Jordan,
Lydia Shaw and
Emily Yin.
"I'm so proud and fortunate to lead this group of women, the growth we've had this fall is incredible," said
Sarah Martinez, Yale's Loring Family Head Coach. "The foundation that has been set for our future is so exciting, and our seven seniors have left a legacy that we will build upon. I am bummed we don't get to battle with them again, but I know they will be active pieces of our program and we will strive to make them proud."
