ITHACA, N.Y. –
Claire Dalton had two goals and four points and
Charlotte Welch chipped in two goals and an assist as the Yale Women's Hockey Team blanked Cornell 7-0 at Lynah Rink.
The Bulldogs, led by those two junior forwards, notched their first ECAC Hockey win of the year by scoring three times in the first and adding a pair in each of the final two frames.
Five different players hit the net, including two power-play tallies and a shorthanded goal by first-year blueliner
Vita Poniatovskaia, her second of the season.
"This was a great team effort tonight, with lots of energy, hustle and crisp puck movement," said
Mark Bolding, Yale's Susan Cavanagh Head Coach. "We talked about putting pucks to the net to find our offensive stride and it worked out. Nice to get the win and a complete defensive game too."
Gianna Meloni registered the shutout with 16 saves while the visitors outshot Cornell by 12 overall. That support for Meloni at the offensive end also came from sophomore forward
Elle Hartje, who had three assists, and junior blueliner
Emma Seitz (two assists). In addition, first-year
Emma Harvey tallied her first career goal during Yale's offensive outburst.
