PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Kathryn Attar and Carly Diehl had double-doubles on Friday night as Yale handed Brown its first Ivy League loss this season. The scores of the match were 25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 24-26 and 15-13.
The victory also snapped Brown's 10-match win streak and brought the Bulldogs closer in the Ivy League standings. Yale stands at 12-5 overall and 5-3 in the Ivy League.
Attar had 15 kills and added a team-best 19 digs. In the fifth set, Attar had four kills including match point. Fatima Samb delivered back-to-back points to give Yale an 8-7 lead and the Bulldogs never tailed again.
Diehl had 34 assists and 16 digs, while Audrey Leak had 15 kills, six digs and four blocks. Samb had 11 kills, hit .421 and seven blocks.
The Bulldogs started strong by winning the first two sets. The Bulldogs hit .500 as a team and held a 6-1 edge in blocks in the first.
In the second, Yale made clutch plays down the stretch. The Bulldogs scored the four of the final five points, including a kill from Leak, an ace from Maile Somera and set point from Sam Bray.
Brown won the third and fourth sets. The Bears escaped the fourth set by winning the final three points.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend with matches at Cornell and Columbia.
