Bulldogs Notch Third Straight Win, Sweep Cornell

Diehl Nearly Posts Triple Double

Carly Diehl narrowly missed a triple double in leading the Yale volleyball team to its third straight road win with a sweep of Cornell.  The scores of the sets were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-20.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 6-3 in league play and 13-5 overall.

Diehl had nine kills, nine digs and dished out 26 assists while hitting .563.  Fatima Samb and Mila Yarich both had seven kills.

The Bulldogs used a 5-0 run in the first set to pull away and grab the victory.  In the second set, the Bulldogs hit .353 as a team.

Yale's defense stood out as well. Maile Somera led the way with 13 digs, including a one-handed display in the third to keep a rally alive that eventually led to a point and a 15-12 lead.

Yarich added 12 digs and Renee Shultz had 11.  As a team, the Bulldogs held a 53-45 edge in digs and held Cornell to a .117 hitting percentage.

The Bulldogs moved to within one match of second place in the Ivy standings tonight with Princeton's loss at Harvard.  Yale travels to Columbia tomorrow for a 5 p.m. match.
