Carly Diehl narrowly missed a triple double in leading the Yale volleyball team to its third straight road win with a sweep of Cornell. The scores of the sets were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-20.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 6-3 in league play and 13-5 overall.
Diehl had nine kills, nine digs and dished out 26 assists while hitting .563.
Fatima Samb and
Mila Yarich both had seven kills.
The Bulldogs used a 5-0 run in the first set to pull away and grab the victory. In the second set, the Bulldogs hit .353 as a team.
Yale's defense stood out as well.
Maile Somera led the way with 13 digs, including a one-handed display in the third to keep a rally alive that eventually led to a point and a 15-12 lead.
Yarich added 12 digs and
Renee Shultz had 11. As a team, the Bulldogs held a 53-45 edge in digs and held Cornell to a .117 hitting percentage.
The Bulldogs moved to within one match of second place in the Ivy standings tonight with Princeton's loss at Harvard. Yale travels to Columbia tomorrow for a 5 p.m. match.
