PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Fatima Samb had 11 blocks, added eight kills and hit .438 and Maile Somera had 16 digs to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-1 win at Penn on Saturday evening. The scores of the match were 25-19, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-19.
Yale improved to 11-5 overall and 4-3 overall, and have won 9 of its last 10 against the Quakers.
The Bulldogs hit .290 as a team and had only one error in their first 22 swings in an impressive first set victory. Audrey Leak led Yale with 12 kills, including one to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 19-9. Carly Diehl (21 assists, eight digs) capped the first set with an ace -- one of 10 on the night for Yale.
In the second set, Yale scored eight of the final nine points. Sam Bray, Renee Shultz, Bonnie Bostic, Leak and Samb all had at least one kill during the run. Bray finished nine kills, four digs and three aces.
After Penn took the third set, Samb's third kill of the fourth set gave Yale a 13-8 lead. The Bulldogs led by as much as nine -- 21-12 -- before closing out the set and grabbing an important road win.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday at Brown. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
