NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team will test itself right off the bat to start the 2020 season. The Bulldogs are in Northern California for the Silicon Valley Classic, hosted by Santa Clara and San Jose State. Yale has five games in three days, starting with Canisius on Friday at 2:30 p.m. EST followed by Santa Clara on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. EST. On Saturday, the Bulldogs move to San Jose for games against Colorado State and San Jose State and then wrap up the trip vs. California Baptist on Sunday in San Jose.
The five opponents all have already begun their seasons. Canisius has a 3-4 record and plays San Jose State on Thursday. Santa Clara is 5-4, Colorado State is 4-5, San Jose State is 9-2 and California Baptist is 4-5.
Yale enters the season with high expectations. The Bulldogs return their top three hitters from a year ago, including second team All-Ivy selection
Sydney Grobman, who led the team in average (.357), home runs (4) and RBI (28).
Also back are three experienced pitchers -
Mary Baumann, Nic Conway and
Miranda Papes.
