NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's tennis team defeated Boston University in a hard-fought match on Sunday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The Bulldogs' spring campaign will pick up again on Sunday, Feb. 9 at home against the University of Minnesota.
The Elis started the match off strong in the doubles as the seasoned duo of senior
Ryan Cheng and junior
Cody Lin broke away from their opponents early at the No. 2 spot, ultimately to drop only one game. At both the Nos. 1 and 3 positions the Terriers fought through to the last game, but senior
Dylan King and sophomore
Michael Sun outplayed their opponents at the No. 1 spot to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.
King certainly maintained the momentum heading into singles, dominating the No. 1 singles position 6-1, 6-0. The senior captain had a very impressive weekend, losing only 3 games across two singles matches at the top of the lineup. First-year
Robert Shymansky likewise cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 spot to widen the Bulldogs' lead to 3-0.
After losing two tightly-contested matches at the Nos. 2 and 4 positions, Lin held strong in a close second set to clinch the match for the Bulldogs 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 position.
"It was good to get two wins to start the season," said
Chris Drake, The Cary Leeds Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "Both the players and coaches learned a lot over the weekend which will help us moving forward. There's a lot we need to work on to get the most out of our group, but we'll be back working hard towards that goal on Tuesday."
