Two Games in Three Days at Lee as Calendar Turns

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's basketball team ends 2019 and starts 2020 with a pair of games in quick succession at Lee Amphitheater this week, hosting Wagner at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday (ESPN+, NESN+) and Mercer at 7:00 p.m. Thursday (ESPN+).

Last Game
Yale (8-3, 0-0 Ivy League) won 66-63 at UNC on Saturday, holding the Tar Heels to their lowest point total of the season. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead, hitting four of their first six shots, and built the lead up to 14 points in the first. UNC (9-2, 0-0 ACC) rallied and took a three-point lead with7:52 left in the game, but the Bulldogs responded with a 6-0 run. The Tar Heels tied the game 57-57 with 2:28 to play and then had a chance to take the lead, but junior guard Ellen Margaret Andrews (Dallas, Texas) stole a pass near the top of the key and took off for a layup with 1:41 remaining, drawing a foul in the process. Yale maintained the lead for the rest of the way, earning its first victory vs. an ACC school since beating Florida State 91-85 on Dec. 18, 2010 at Lee Amphitheater.

Andrews Honored by Ivy League
Junior guard Ellen Margaret Andrews (Dallas, Texas), who had a team-high 24 points in the win at North Carolina Saturday, has been named Ivy League Player of the Week. The league announced the award Monday afternoon. Andrews had three of Yale's 10 steals, anchoring a defense that limited UNC to its lowest point total of the season. The Tar Heels had averaged 82.5 points per game prior to Saturday. In addition to her 24 points, she also had six rebounds and a pair of blocks while playing 36:56. For the season, Andrews leads the Ivy League in steals (2.4 steals per game) and is fifth in scoring (15.6 points per game).

Defense on a Roll
Yale has held three of its last four opponents to 38.1% shooting or worse, including back-to-back games of 30% or worse (24.6% for Sacred Heart, 29.5% for UNC).

Double-Double for Roxy
Senior guard Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) had her first double-double of the season Saturday at UNC, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Last season Barahman had five double-doubles, including three games where she had 20+ points and 10+ rebounds.

For her career Barahman has 1,226 points -- tied for 11th all-time at Yale with Sarah Halejian '15. She is 36 points away from Erica Davis '07 in 10th.

Home Court Advantage
Yale plays its next three games at Lee Amphitheater before embarking on a five-game road swing. The Bulldogs have gone 43-22 (.662) at Lee since the start of the 2014-15 season. This season at home they have outscored their opponents 74.5 to 64.5, outrebounded them 38.0 to 33.5 and have a 9.3 to 5.3 advantage in steals.

Scouting Wagner
Wagner (4-6, 0-0 NEC) has lost four of its last five, allowing 64 or more points four times in that stretch. Yale beat the Seahawks 74-41 last season in Staten Island, shooting 50% (30-for-60) from the field and limiting Wagner to 26.8% (15-for-56). The Bulldogs had a 52-18 advantage in points in the paint and had three players score in double digits: senior guard Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) (22 points), sophomore forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) (17 points) and junior forward Alex Cade (Shaker Heights, Ohio) (16 points).

Scouting Mercer
Mercer (3-10, 0-0 SoCon) has lost four in a row, but three of those losses were by four or fewer points. The Bears made the NCAA Tournament last season, finishing with a 25-8 record that included a perfect 14-0 mark in Southern Conference play. Guard/forward Shannon Titus, a second team All-SoCon pick last year, leads the team in steals (35), blocks (17), and rebounds (7.7 per game). She is second in scoring (13.6 points per game).
