Bulldogs Drop Slugfest At Penn

Box Score

Grobman Knocks In Three Runs For Yale

Yale got off to a great start Saturday at Penn. The Bulldogs erupted for six runs in the top of the first inning. Unfortunately for Yale, the Quakers had a quick response. Penn tallied eight times in the second inning and hung on for a 9-8 victory at Penn Park.

Sydney Grobman, who homered in both games on Saturday, had another big game for the Bulldogs, finishing with three RBI. Shelby Kennedy and Lindsay Kuss each had two hits.

Grobman's first RBI came on a sacrifice fly that opened the scoring in the first inning. It was just the beginning of a big Yale rally. Allison Skinner and Madison Sack each had run-scoring singles in the inning, and Kuss drew a bases-loaded walk. The Bulldogs also executed a successful double steal to plate a run in the inning.

Penn got one run back in the bottom of the first and then had the big second inning to take the lead.

Relief pitcher Terra Jerpbak kept the Quakers off the board the rest of the way.

Yale closed within one in the sixth. Pinch-hitter Phylicia Wilkov led off with an infield single and Kuss followed with a single with right. Wilkov beat the throw to third on the play, and Kuss alertly took second. Kennedy was then intentionally walked to load the bases. Relief pitcher Mason Spichiger retired the next two hitters, but Grobman delivered a clutch, two-out single that scored Wilkov and Kuss. Spicher, though, got the next hitter to limit the damage.

Yale also had an opportunity in the seventh. Carlin Hagmaier led off with a double and moved to third on Sack's sacrifice bunt. Spichler, though, again worked out of trouble, stranding the tying run on third.

The Bulldogs take a break from Ivy League action when they play a single game at Quinnipiac on Wednesday. The first pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
