Box Score 2 Quakers Get Late Homers To Sweep
There hasn't been a hotter hitter in Ivy League play than Yale's Sydney Grobman. That was on display Friday afternoon at Penn Park in Philadelphia. Grobman homered in each game but the Bulldogs still dropped the doubleheader to the Quakers, falling 7-2 in the first game and 5-1 in the second game.
In 11 Ivy games, Grobman is now batting .389 with three home runs and a .722 slugging percentage.
Her solo homer in the second inning of the first game tied the score at 1-1.
The Quakers, though, also benefitted from the long ball. Katie Petroski belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning, giving Penn a 5-1 lead.
The Quakers then tacked on two more runs in the sixth.
Yale had opportunities to get back in the game but left the bases loaded in both the fourth and seventh innings.
Annie Tarte's RBI single in the seventh accounted for the Bulldogs' second run.
Shelby Kennedy, Giovy Webb, Allison Skinner, Carlin Hagmaier, Olivia Lee and Lindsay Kuss also had hits for Yale.
In the second game, Grobman's solo homer with two outs in the top of the sixth tied the score at 1-1.
The Quakers, though, scored four times in the bottom of the sixth. The big blow was a three-run home run from Lucy Yang.
Penn pitcher Jennifer Brann limited the Bulldogs to five hits in tossing a complete game.
Because of a much improved forecast in Philadelphia, the teams will now complete the series with a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m. Originally the final game was set to be played on Sunday.
