Box Score 2 Kennedy, Tarte, Grobman Lead Way With Three Apiece
Yale's offense fared well pretty well against the top pitching staff in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs banged out 15 hits in two games against Dartmouth. The Big Green hurlers, though, got the big outs when they needed to and took a big step toward earning a berth in the league championship series by knocking off Yale twice, 3-1 and 5-2.
Shelby Kennedy, Annie Tarte and Sydney Grobman each had three hits on the day for the Bulldogs.
In the first game, Dartmouth's Breanna Ethridge struck out eight in six innings in earning her sixth win of the season.
The Bulldogs struck first in the first inning. Kennedy was hit by a pitch, stole her league-leading 23rd base of the season and scored on Grobman's single up the middle.
Dartmouth answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on an insurance run in the third.
Yale threatened in the seventh, loading the bases on a walk by Sydney Ginsberg and singles by Tarte and Kennedy, but the next three hitters were retired.
In the second game, the Bulldogs also took an early lead when Grobman doubled home Allison Skinner in the first inning.
It stayed 1-0 until the third inning when Dartmouth scored four times.
The Big scored in the sixth to make it 5-1.
The Bulldogs once again fought to the bitter end. Grobman's single scored Tarte in the seventh, and Yale got the tying run to the plate before Heather Turner regrouped to record the final out.
The Bulldogs had chances throughout the game but left 10 runners on base.
The Big Green improved to 12-5 in Ivy play and sit atop the league standings.
Yale and Dartmouth conclude the three-game series with a single game on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
