Box Score 2 Weisenbach Tallies Three Hits For Yale
TAMPA, Fla. – Yale escaped the seemingly never-ending Northeast winter to kick off the 2015 season, and the Bulldogs dropped a pair of games on opening day, falling to Maine 8-0 and losing to South Florida 6-1. Both games were played at the beautiful USF Softball Complex.
Camille Weisenbach had three hits on the day to lead the Yale offense.
In the first game, Yale was facing a Maine (9-8) team that was playing its 17th game of the season. The Black Bears scored six runs in the third inning and added two more in the sixth.
Yale was limited to two hits – a double by Sarah Onorato and a Weisenbach single.
The Bulldogs managed six hits in their second game against a South Florida (18-7) team that now has 25 games under its belt.
Trailing 4-0, Yale scored its run in the fourth. Hannah Brennan was hit by a pitch leading off the inning and moved to third on an Allison Skinner single. Sydney Ginsberg followed with an RBI single to center.
Ginsberg was one of several newcomers to make a contribution in the openers. Skinner started at third base in both games, while Ginsberg, centerfielder Sydney Glover and Alexa Caruso each recorded their first career hits.
In the circle, freshman Francesca Casalino started against USF and pitched well. In six innings, she struck out five and yielded only two earned runs.
Yale threatened in the seventh inning against USF, loading the bases, but couldn't push across a run.
The Bulldogs play Syracuse on Wednesday in Clearwater, Fla., at 1 p.m.
