Cain Makes 10 Saves
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – No. 4 Princeton
utilized all of its offensive weapons Saturday afternoon at Johnson
Field: five different players scored, eight different players had
points and Kat Sharkey had a hat trick in the 7-0 win over Yale.
The Bulldogs got 10 saves from freshman goalie Emily Cain, who came on to play the second half.
After going scoreless for nearly 11 minutes, Princeton got its
offense going with a penalty corner goal from Sharkey, who leads
the country in goals with 16. After goals by Allison Behringer and
Michelle Cesan extended the lead, Sharkey scored again two minutes
before halftime to make it 4-0.
The Bulldogs did put together a 25-minute stretch of holding the
Tigers scoreless, mostly thanks to Cain's work in goal, but
Sharkey finished off her hat trick with 12 minutes to play. That
started a run of three goals in six minutes, including scores by
Julia Reinprecht and Molly Goodman, that made the final 7-0.
Princeton (6-0, 2-0 Ivy League) has now won 19 Ivy League games
in a row. The Tigers have scored seven or more goals in four of
their six games.
Yale (4-3, 1-1 Ivy League) returns to action Sunday afternoon
vs. Hofstra at Johnson Field (2 p.m.).
