Michaela Day joined Yale Athletics as its Head Football Athletic Trainer in July 2025.
She previously served as the Head Football Athletic Trainer at the University of Massachusetts, beginning in February 2023.
Before UMass, Day was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Merrimack College (September 2021–February 2023), where she was the primary athletic trainer for the football, women’s ice hockey, and bowling programs. She collaborated with strength and conditioning staff on mobility and injury prevention strategies, coordinated medical appointments and screenings, and led mental health initiatives including EPAs and team wellness meetings. She also mentored graduate assistant athletic trainers and supervised MSAT students and hydration staff.
From September 2020 to September 2021, Day worked at Connecticut College, providing care for 28 varsity programs. In addition to clinical responsibilities, she developed movement screenings, corrective exercise plans, and educational content focused on nutrition, mental health, and mobility.
Day began her career as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Merrimack (July 2019–May 2020), covering football, women’s ice hockey, and men’s and women’s tennis. She managed injury documentation, supported athletes with dietary restrictions, and assisted with event logistics for the Hockey East Championship. She also traveled internationally with the women’s ice hockey team to Belfast, Ireland.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training, completing clinical rotations with Yale, Virginia, and UMass football programs. She earned a Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Science from Merrimack College.
