Ian Ballantyne

Ian Ballantyne was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director for Event Management in May 2025. He originally joined Yale Athletics in August 2019 as Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations and was elevated to Associate Athletic Director in July 2021.

In his current role, Ballantyne is responsible for the planning and execution of all Yale Athletics events and manages concessionaire operations across all athletic venues. He also serves as the sport administrator for Yale’s field hockey, sailing, and men’s and women’s golf programs.

Prior to New Haven, he spent four as an Assistant Director of Operations & Events at Stanford University.

During his tenure with the Cardinal, he served as the event manager for NCAA Tournament women's soccer games and the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championship. He was the primary event supervisor for women's volleyball, women's gymnastics, women's lacrosse and baseball. 

Prior to Stanford, Ballantyne served as an Events & Facilities Coordinator at San Jose State where he served as the primary event manager for men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, gymnastics and softball in addition to assisting in game day operations for football. He also developed and managed all athletic department facility schedules.

Ballantyne began his athletic administration career at the University of Washington as an Assistant Event Manager where he supervised the customer service team for all home athletic events and special events held at UW athletics facilities. In 2013, he served as visiting team liaison at the NCAA Volleyball Tournament championship.

Ballantyne graduated from Linfield College in 2010 with a B.A. in economics. He then earned a M.A. in sports administration and leadership from Seattle in 2012.
