Biography

2016: Elected the 2015-16 team captain… Appeared in three games on the mound, making two starts… Had a 5.06 ERA in 5.1 innings pitched… Injury relegated him to the team’s designated hitter against left-handers... Played in 22 games total, recording nine hits and six RBI…  Batted .237 with an on base percentage of .286… On the road he hit .304 with an on base percentage of .360.

2015: Elected the 2015-16 team captain...Appeared in 11 games on the mound, making nine starts... Went 1-5 with an 8.04 ERA in 47.0 innings pitched... Had a 34-20 strikeout to walk ratio... Four games with five or more strikeouts, against Davidson, Towson, Cornell and Penn... Allowed three runs on seven hits in 8.1 innings against Dartmouth on April 12... Struck-out six batters and allowed only two runs over six innings in a 22-3 thumping of Davidson on March 7.

2014: Named Honorable Mention All-Ivy... Selected as Ivy Pitcher of the Week on April 8 for his 4.2 combined innings of shutout relief pitching in wins over Cornell and Princeton... Team-low ERA of 2.11 in 38.1 innings of work... Sixth-best ERA in Ivy League... 1-2 record in 16 relief appearances with three saves on the season... 29 strikeouts and 14 walks throughout the year... Three games with four strikeouts, including wins over UMass-Lowell, Cornell, and Brown... Went 4.1 innings against Dartmouth in the Rolfe Division playoff game, allowing only one earned run and striking out six.

2013: Made 13 appearances with four starts and nine relief appearances out of the Yale bullpen… Finished with a 1-4 record, one save and a 2.98 ERA with 29 strikeouts, six walks and 14 earned runs in 42.1 innings… Also had two starts as Yale’s designated hitter and three pinch-hitting opportunities, going 2-for-8 (.250) with two RBIs and a walk… Scattered three hits and struck out six batters in 7.0 innings in a 7-2 win at Brown on April 27 for his first win in a Yale uniform… Second on the team in ERA (2.98) and strikeouts (29) and led the team with 13 appearances.

Off the Field:

  • Devoted a gap year to "giving back" by working with various non-profits, including the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, the Big House Foundation, and Preston Taylor Ministries
  • Co-leader of Athletes in Action, a group of Christian athletes on campus whose mission is to develop student leaders with a passion for God and a compassion for others
  • Chairman of the Social Activities Committee in Saybrook, the entity that plans and organizes all major student events for Saybrook students

Before Yale: Spent his first two years at Lee County High School before transferring to Deerfield-Windsor School, where he lettered his final two seasons... An honors graduate with a 4.3 grade-point average (4.0 scale)... Led Deerfield-Windsor to the state finals in his senior season... Led the Knights with a 9-3 record on the mound with a 1.85 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched... At the plate, he recorded a .603 batting average with nine home runs and 49 RBIs. The average, home runs and his 15 home runs in his two seasons are all Deerfield-Windsor school records... Named the Ray Knight Player of the Year, the Georgia Independent School Association Player of the Year, the Region Player of the Year and a two-time All-State selection... Batted .550 in his two seasons on Lee County High''s ninth grade and B-teams.
