Whittington Named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Junior back/midfielder Hettie Whittington (Guildford, Surrey, England), who totaled three goals in helping the Yale field hockey team start the season 2-0 this past weekend, has been named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week. The league announced the award Monday afternoon.

Whittington came through in the clutch on Sunday against UMass Lowell at Johnson Field, delivering the game-tying goal on a penalty stroke at 52:08 and then scoring the game-winning goal on a penalty corner 4:32 into overtime as the Bulldogs won 3-2. Whittington also scored a goal in Friday's season-opening 8-2 win vs. Long Island at Johnson Field. She had a defensive save in each game this weekend as well.

Whittington is a graduate of Surbiton High School. She was a first team NFHCA All-Mideast Region pick last year and earned first team All-Ivy League honors as well.

Yale hosts Hofstra Friday at 5:00 p.m., seeking to start the season 3-0 for the second year in a row. Prior to last year Yale had not started a season 3-0 since 2018.
