NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale track and field team opened competition at the Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships on Saturday at the Cuyler Athletic Complex and Dwyer Track. On day one, the Bulldogs advanced athletes in nearly every event, setting themselves up for a strong showing in Sunday's finals. With multiple school records and numerous top 10 all-time marks already this season, anticipation is high for an exciting and competitive conclusion to the championship.

The Bulldogs:

• In the hammer throw, junior Charlie Williams broke the 50-meter mark for the first time, launching a throw of 50.22m on her third attempt. The mark earned Yale's top finish in the event and moved Williams to sixth on the program's all-time list.
• On the track, junior Carmel Fitzgibbon ran a tactical 4:36.18 in the 1500m to place fifth in her heat, automatically advancing to Sunday's final.
• In the 100m hurdles, sophomore Lucija Grd secured a spot in the final by placing second in her heat, clocking 13.82 seconds with a wind reading of +2.0 m/s.
• Senior Peyton Parker earned a place in the 400m final, finishing third in her heat with a time of 56.42, qualifying based on time.
• Sophomore Juliette Kosmont claimed victory in her 100m heat with a swift 11.63 seconds (+4.4 m/s wind), securing automatic qualification for the finals.
• The 800m featured a dominant performance by Yale, as sophomore Victoria Guerrier and senior Iris Bergman finished first and second overall, respectively. Guerrier crossed the line in 2:07.21, followed closely by Bergman at 2:07.67 – both advancing to Sunday's final.
• In the long jump, senior Dominique Romain set a personal best of 6.13m, improving her previous mark by 13 centimeters and earning fifth place overall.
• In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Gloria Guerrier won her heat with a time of 59.60, securing a spot in the final.
• Junior Charlotte Whitehurst had a breakthrough in the 10,000m, running a personal best of 34:54.96 to take fifth place and earn two points for Yale. Her time ranks her sixth on Yale's all-time list.
• In the heptathlon, junior Makayla White sits in sixth place after completing the first four events: the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m. White will return Sunday for the long jump, javelin and 800m to close out the multi-event competition.

• Up next, the Bulldogs shift their focus to Sunday's finals. In addition Saturday's qualifiers, junior Claire Archer will compete in the 5k, first-year Zoe Martonfi in the 3k steeplechase, first-year Anna Siciliano in the shot put and sophomore Alexandra Bonn in the triple jump. Fans should also keep an eye on the 4x100m, 4x400m and 4x800m relays, all set to cap off the weekend's competition.
