Bulldogs Split Twin Bill At Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Yale softball team split a pair of games with Cornell, earning a 12-4 win before falling 21-10 in the second game. The Bulldogs moved to 14-13 overall (4-1 Ivy), while the Big Red now stand at 9-7 overall (1-1 Ivy).

Game 1: Yale 12, Cornell 4

  • T1 | Lauren Perren launched a 2-2 solo home run to left-center, giving Yale an early lead. After Ella Cross reached on a walk, Isabella Fortini ripped an RBI double to the left-field fence to bring her home. (Yale 2, Cornell 0)
  • T2 | The Bulldogs extended their lead in the second inning as Katie Donahey and Lauren Perren hit back-to-back home runs, pushing the lead to five. (Yale 5, Cornell 0)
  • B2 | Cornell got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second.
  • T3 | Yale's offense stayed hot in the third. Sophie Woodridge led off with a double to center and was quickly driven in by an SJ Mull double. With two outs, Kaitlyn Oikle, Elena Ohe, and Ella Gandolfo each contributed hits that brought in additional runs, extending the Bulldogs' lead to eight. (Yale 9, Cornell 1)
  • T4 | Woodridge added a solo home run to left field. (Yale 10, Cornell 1)
  • T5 | Yale tacked on two more runs in bases-loaded situations, drawing a pair of walks. (Yale 12, Cornell 1)

  • T4 | Yale got on the board in the fourth, plating four runs on five hits. Woodridge drove in two with a double, followed by a two-run single from Fortini. (Cornell 21, Yale 4)
  • T5 | The Bulldogs made a final offensive push. Elena Ohe and Ella Gandolfo drew back-to-back walks and advanced on a wild pitch. Perren drove in Ohe for Yale's fifth run. Maddie Latta, pinch-hitting, ripped a double to center to bring in two more runs. Fortini followed with a two-run hit of her own before scoring Yale's 10th and final run. (Cornell 21, Yale 10)
  • FINAL | Despite Yale's late offensive surge, Cornell's dominant third inning proved to be the difference.
