TEMPE, Ariz. – The Yale softball team dropped both games on the opening day of the ASU/GCU Invitational. The Bulldogs fell to UTEP, 4-0, in the first game of the day before losing to Arizona State, 9-1, later that night. Yale sits at 2-6 on the season, while UTEP improved to 10-6 and ASU to 13-5.
Game 1: UTEP 4, Yale 0
- After two scoreless innings, UTEP broke through in the third, scoring three runs on a pair of hits and a steal at home.
- The Miners added their final run in the fifth on an RBI double to right center.
Game 2: Arizona State 9, Yale 1
- Arizona State scored in each of its at-bats, tallying nine runs on 10 hits.
- Yale's lone run came in the top of the fifth when SJ Mull hit an infield single to the pitcher with the bases loaded, bringing in a run.
- Arizona native Katie Donahey led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-for-3.
- Sophie Woodridge, Isabella Fortini, SJ Mull, and Ella Gandolfo each recorded a hit for Yale.
