Bulldogs Notch First Victory, Split Doubleheader in Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Yale softball team secured its first win of the season with a 5-2 victory over Northwestern State before falling to North Texas, 10-3.

The Bulldogs moved to 1-4 on the season, while Northwestern State dropped to 1-12, and North Texas improved to 11-2.

Game 1: Yale 5, Northwestern State 2

  • T1 | Lauren Perren launched a two-out solo home run to put Yale on the board early. (YAL 1, NWS 0)
  • T3 | Ella Gandolfo drew a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ella Cross. Isabella Fortini followed with an RBI single to left field, scoring Gandolfo to extend Yale's lead. (YAL 2, NWS 0)
  • T5 | The Bulldogs struck again in the fifth. Gandolfo worked another walk and moved to second on a 1-1 double to right-center by Cross. Fortini then delivered a two-run double to left-center, increasing Yale's lead. (YAL 4, NWS 0)
  • B6 | Northwestern State cut the deficit in half with a two-run homer. (YAL 4, NWS 2)
  • T7 | With the bases loaded and no outs, Perren crossed home plate on a fielder's choice for Yale's final run. (YAL 5, NWS 2)
  • B7 | The Bulldogs sealed the victory with a three-up, three-down inning.

Game 2: North Texas 10, Yale 3

  • T1 | North Texas jumped out to an early lead with an RBI double down the left-field line. (NTX 1, YAL 0)
