ARLINGTON, Texas – The Yale softball team secured its first win of the season with a 5-2 victory over Northwestern State before falling to North Texas, 10-3.
The Bulldogs moved to 1-4 on the season, while Northwestern State dropped to 1-12, and North Texas improved to 11-2.
Game 1: Yale 5, Northwestern State 2
- T1 | Lauren Perren launched a two-out solo home run to put Yale on the board early. (YAL 1, NWS 0)
- T3 | Ella Gandolfo drew a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ella Cross. Isabella Fortini followed with an RBI single to left field, scoring Gandolfo to extend Yale's lead. (YAL 2, NWS 0)
- T5 | The Bulldogs struck again in the fifth. Gandolfo worked another walk and moved to second on a 1-1 double to right-center by Cross. Fortini then delivered a two-run double to left-center, increasing Yale's lead. (YAL 4, NWS 0)
- B6 | Northwestern State cut the deficit in half with a two-run homer. (YAL 4, NWS 2)
- T7 | With the bases loaded and no outs, Perren crossed home plate on a fielder's choice for Yale's final run. (YAL 5, NWS 2)
- B7 | The Bulldogs sealed the victory with a three-up, three-down inning.
Game 2: North Texas 10, Yale 3
- T1 | North Texas jumped out to an early lead with an RBI double down the left-field line. (NTX 1, YAL 0)
- T2 | The Mean Green broke the game open with five runs on five hits in the second inning. (NTX 6, YAL 0)
- T3 | A sacrifice fly added another run for North Texas. (NTX 7, YAL 0)
- T4 | Back-to-back solo home runs pushed North Texas' lead to double digits. (NTX 10, YAL 0)
- B5 | The Bulldogs got on the board in the fifth. With runners on second and third, Kaitlyn Oikle drove in Yale's first run with an infield single. Two more runs followed on a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly, cutting into the deficit. (NTX 10, YAL 3)
