CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Yale baseball team started the 2025 campaign with a resounding 16-3 win over Queens University on Friday afternoon in Charlotte, N.C. The Bulldogs put up five runs in the eighth inning to go up by 13 runs against the Royals, ending the game via the mercy rule.
Yale improved to 1-0 overall, while Queens dropped to 2-3 on the season.
Key Performers
- Jake Williams went 4-for-5 and set a new career high with four RBI. The senior also scored twice and recorded a stolen base.
- Alec Atkinson, Tommy Martin, and Garrett Larsen each tallied three hits. Larsen also swiped a pair of bases.
- First year Jack Dauer recorded two base hits and three stolen bases.
- Starting pitcher Colton Shaw picked up right where he left off last year with a strong performance on the mound. Shaw pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out eight.

Game Notes
- After dropping its first eight games of the 2024 season, Yale wasted no time picking up its first win of 2025. The Bulldogs scored their most runs in a season opener in more than 15 years.
- Yale swiped 10 bases as a team, the most stolen bases that Queens has allowed in program history.
- Dauer had a fantastic collegiate debut, picking up his first hit, run scored, stolen base, RBI and walk while starting at third base.
- Mick Kelley tossed two scoreless innings to close out the game in relief of Shaw.
