NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's hockey team opened its home season with a statement win, defeating No. 5 nationally ranked Quinnipiac, 4-2, at Ingalls Rink.
The win puts the Bulldogs at 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in ECAC Hockey, while the Bobcats fell to 5-3-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.Â
Period 1 – Quinnipiac 2, Yale 1
- 2:13 | Quinnipiac struck first, taking an early lead just over two minutes into the period.
- 10:15 | The Bobcats doubled their advantage eight minutes later.
- 13:27 | James Shannon carried the puck through center ice into the offensive zone and found David Andreychuk on a two-on-one for Yale's first goal.
Period 2 – Yale 2, Quinnipiac 2
- 16:22 | Shannon tied the game with his first career goal. In a 4-on-4 situation, he fired a shot from the far circle that sailed over the goalie's blocker side.
Period 3 – Yale 4, Quinnipiac 2
- 16:21 | David Chen capitalized on a loose puck, deking the goalie backhanded and slotting it into the net to give Yale the lead.
- 19:42.1 | Ronan O'Donnell sealed the victory with an empty-net goal after hustling into the zone.
