NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's sailing team captured the Yale Women's Interconference title over the weekend at home.
On Saturday, the breeze came out of the southwest at a steady 6 knots. Sunday brought 9–12 knot winds from the south with small to medium waves. Skipper Carly Kieding with crew Sarah Moeder won A division, while skipper Elle Sykes with crews Ella Benedetto and Maren Bradley won B division.
The coed team competed at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals at the U.S. Naval Academy. After a wind delay Saturday morning, six races were completed on the Severn River in challenging, shifty conditions. Sunday's racing featured an 8–12 knot breeze from the south that built to 15–20 knots by the end of the day. Skipper Morgan Pinckney sailed in A division with crews Annabel Woodworth, Julia Miller, and Clara Díaz Suárez. Skippers Dorothy Mendelblatt and Mathias Reimer sailed in B division with crews Julia Miller, Clara Díaz Suárez, and Ashley Highland. Yale placed 11th overall after 14 races in each division.
Another coed team raced at the Oberg Trophy on the Charles River. Saturday's conditions were too light for racing, but Sunday brought 6–12 knot winds from the south, allowing five races in each division. Alex Adams and Margaret Ratzen sailed in A division, Patrick Wahlig and Matilda Twigg in B division, and Vincent Huang and Puiyee Kong in C division. The Bulldogs finished 13th overall.
Next weekend marks the final events of the doublehanded fall season, with Yale competing in the Schell Trophy at MIT, the Urn Trophy at Harvard, and the Nickerson Trophy at Tufts.
