PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Yale men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Philadelphia Invitational, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday. Both squads fared well in an event that included several nationally-ranked programs. The event was cut short due to weather.
The men's team finished the event with a 3-1 record. The Bulldogs picked up victories over No. 7 Penn, Wagner and Haverford. The Elis fell to No. 4 Princeton in the final match of the day. Yale improved to 16-3 overall with two of its three losses coming to opponents ranked in the top 10 nationally.

The women's team competed in five matches, recording a 3-1-1 record. The Bulldogs earned three consecutive wins to start the day over No. 7 Penn, Haverford and Wagner. Yale tied with No. 4 Princeton because of injuries to both teams, and wrapped up competition with a narrow 14-13 loss to No. 11 Temple. The Bulldogs improved to 20-3-1 this season.
