Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale baseball team won its final non-conference game of the season, topping Iona 10-5 on Wednesday evening at Bush Field.
Colin Sloan and
Jeff Pierantoni paced the Bulldogs' offense while
Bryant Reese gave the hosts a strong start on the mound.
Yale improves to 16-22 overall this season, while Iona falls to 11-33.
How it Happened
- Bottom 1st | Yale scored the first run of the game on a bunt by sac bunt by Alec Atkinson.
- Bottom 3rd | The Bulldogs broke the game open in the third inning scoring five runs. After Tommy Martin walked with the bases loaded to bring in a run, Sloan cleared the bases with a double to right-center. One batter later, Garrett Larsen singled to right to bring home Sloan. Bulldogs led 6-0 after three innings.
- Top 4th | Iona scored one in the fourth to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 6-1.
- Top 5th | The Gaels scored another run to cut the deficit to four.
- Bottom 6th | Pierantoni hit a two-run bomb to right center to extend Yale's lead to 8-2.
- Top 8th | Iona scored three runs to get back into the game. The Gaels trailed 8-5 after eight turns at the plate.
- Bottom 8th | Yale tacked on two insurance runs to seal the 10-5 victory.
Game Notes
- Yale has now won all three matchups all-time against Iona.
- Bryant Reese started the game for the Bulldogs, throwing three perfect innings. Chris DiPrima came on in relief followed by Ethan Lewis and Carter Kessinger. Tate Evans finished the game for the hosts.
- Sloan recorded a career-high three RBIs.
- Pierantoni hit his second home run of the season and finished with three RBIs on the day.
