PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – High powered offense from
Willa Ferrer and a strong relief appearance for
Meredith Henderson helped the Yale softball team earn two victories over Penn in Ivy play, 9-6 and 4-3, at Penn Park. Yale's record improved to 16-20 overall and 11-3 in the conference, while Penn moved to 7-21 and 2-9.
The Bulldogs' 11 conference wins this season ties a program record for single-season Ivy wins. The record was set during the 2009 season and tied last year.
Game 1: Yale 9, Penn 6
- B1 | The home side was the first to get on the board with a RBI double that scored one.
- T2 | Yale responded immediately as Sophie Woodridge hit a lead-off, first-pitch solo home run to center that tied it.
- T2 | A pair of singles and an error gave Yale a bases loaded situation for Willa Ferrer. Ferrer rocked a grand slam to right field to clear the bases and give Yale a four-run lead.
- T4 | Carolyn Skotz reached on a fielder's choice that found SJ Mull crossing home for the sixth run of the game. Three batters later, Ferrer took her licks at the plate, singling down the right field line to score the seventh run.
- B4 | Penn responded in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs on a RBI single to left.
- T7 | The Bulldogs got rolling again in the seventh with two runs on three hits thanks to runs scored by Katie Donahey and SJ Mull.
- B7 | Penn mustered an offensive push with its back against the wall, scoring three runs and coming within three, but Emma Taylor and the Bulldog defense shut them down.
Game 2:
- T3 | Yale found itself on the scoresheet first in game two. In another bases loaded situation for the Bulldogs, Sophie Woodridge was hit by a pitch to score the first run.
- T3 | Willa Ferrer, the game one hero, singled to right field that cleared two runners off and gave Yale a three-run lead.
- B4 | The Quakers generated offense in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on back-to-back hits to tie the game.
- T5 | Carolyn Skotz reached base on a single up the middle, and with a pair of heads-up baserunning decisions, landed herself on third. With Skotz in scoring position, Libby Peoples knocked her in with a single to center field.
- B7 | On defense, Skotz made a heads up defensive play to get the lead runner, and potential game-tying run, at third.

- With her first in game two, Willa Ferrer recorded her 100th career hit for Yale.
- Meredith Henderson tallied a career-high five strikeouts in the circle.
- Ferrer ended up going 4-for-6 on the day with seven RBI, one run scored and one walk.
- Emma Taylor pitched the complete game in the first outing en route to her 10th win of the season in the circle.
- Sophie Woodridge notched her season-high sixth home run of the season.
