NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 16 Yale women's lacrosse team is 9-0 for the first time since 1995 – and just the second time in program history. The Bulldogs beat No. 23 Brown 10-5 Saturday afternoon at Reese Stadium.
Yale (9-0, 3-0 Ivy League) held Brown – which came into the game averaging 17.5 goals per game (third nationally) – scoreless for the first 21:58. That enabled the Bulldogs to build a 4-0 lead. Brown (8-3, 1-2 Ivy League) got no closer than within two the rest of the way.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
- Junior midfielder Fallon Vaughn had the game's only hat trick. Senior attacker Chloe Conaghan (1-2-3) also had three points.
- Junior midfielder Sky Carrasquillo and first-year midfielder Ashley Kiernan also had multiple-goal games, with two each.
- Vaughn had a game-best five caused turnovers and four ground balls. First-year defender Sydney Grogan added three ground balls.
- Junior attacker Jenna Collignon had a game-best five draw controls.
- First-year goalkeeper Laura O'Connor made five saves.
TURNING POINT
- After Brown closed to within 6-3 midway through the third, a goal by Vaughn at 4:40 of the third sparked a 3-0 Yale run that put the game out of reach.
KEY STAT
- Yale limited Brown to 10 shots on goal. The Bears had averaged 26.4 shots on goal per game in their first 10 games.
NOTES
- This was the fewest goals scored in a game for Brown since an 18-5 loss to then-No. 15 Penn Apr. 22, 2023. The Bears had scored at least 14 goals in all 11 games since then.
- Yale has now won 11 of its last 12 against Brown.
- The Bulldogs have won nine in a row for the first time since they had a nine-game winning streak to end the regular season in 2007.
- The Bulldogs are now the only unbeaten team in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse, with No. 2 Michigan losing to No. 1 Maryland 8-6 on Saturday to fall to 11-1.
