Yale's Bats Explode to Earn Doubleheader Split

Bulldogs score 22 runs in game two against Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bulldogs used a 21-hit outburst in game two – capped by a Max Imhoff grand slam – to earn a doubleheader split at Princeton on Saturday afternoon.  Yale won game two 22-2, and dropped the opener 4-3.  Yale will go for the series win tomorrow with the first pitch set for 12 p.m.

Game 1

How it happened:
Bottom 2nd | Kyle Vinci scored the first run of the game after scoring from third on a pickoff rundown at first base.
Bottom 4th | Nick DiPietrantonio homered to center on a 2-2 pitch.
Top 6th | Davis Hanson singled home Garrett Larsen, who led off the inning with being hit by a pitch and advanced on a Jeff Pierantoni single.  Pierantoni scored later in the inning on an error to tie the game.
Bottom 7th | Jake Kernodle led off with a walk and moved to second on a sac bunt.  Matt Scannell singled home Kernodle to give Tigers the lead.
Bottom 8th | Princeton added an insurance run without the benefit of a hit.
Top 9th | Alec Atkinson reached on an error and scored on an Imoff pinch-hit double.
 
Game notes:
  • Reid Easterly allowed three runs over seven innings. 
  • Pierantoni finished with two hits.
  • The Bulldogs turned two double plays in the game.
Game 2

How it happened:
Top 2nd | Imhoff scored Jake Williams on a sac fly.
Bottom 2nd | The Tigers scored their only two runs of the game.
Top 3rd| The Bulldogs tied the game on a Pierantoni sac fly to score Larsen.
Top 4th | Kaiden Dossa and Atkinson both homered.  Atkinson blasted a solo shot, and Dossa added a two-run blast.to give Yale a 5-2 lead.
Top 5th | Hanson added a RBI single.
Top 6th| Hanson, Chace Chaplin, Williams, Imhoff and Dossa all had run-scoring hits for a seven-run inning.
Top 7th | Imhoff's grand slam capped another seven-run inning.  Williams added another run-scoring single and Chris DiPrima finished off the scoring with a RBI single.
Top 9th | Colin Sloan and Chaplin had run-scoring hits.
 
Game notes:
  • Dossa launched his first collegiate homer.
  • Imoff finished with six RBI.
  • Daniel Cohen went seven solid innings to earn the victory. 
  • Eleven Bulldogs scored at least one run.
  • Davis Hanson went 4-for-5 and reached base five times.
  • Williams and Dossa both had three hits. 
  • Yale stole a season-high seven bases.
  • Josh Richardson finished off the game with two scoreless innings.
