PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The No. 16 Yale women's lacrosse team kept its best start since 2001 going Sunday afternoon at Rutgers, beating the Scarlet Knights at SHI Stadium to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Yale (7-0, 1-0 Ivy League) broke open a game that was tied 3-3 with a 4-0 run that extended from the 3:17 mark of the first quarter to 3:17 of the second. Rutgers (5-4, 0-2 Big Ten) never got closer than two the rest of the way. The Bulldogs held the Scarlet Knights scoreless for the final 15:18 to seal the win.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
- Junior midfielder Sky Carrasquillo led all scorers (4-1-5). Junior midfielder Taylor Lane (2-2-4) and first-year midfielder Ashley Kiernan (2-2-4) added four points each.
- Junior attacker Jenna Collignon added a hat trick.
- Carrasquillo and Lane each had a team-best three ground balls.
- Collignon had a game-best six draw controls while Carrasquillo added five.
- Sophomore defender Emmy Pascal had a game-best three caused turnovers.
- First-year goalkeeper Laura O'Connor made seven saves.
TURNING POINT
- Yale held Rutgers scoreless from the 4:27 mark of the first quarter to the 1:14 mark of the second quarter, turning a 3-3 tie into a 7-3 Yale lead.
KEY STAT
- Yale outshot Rutgers 37-18, allowing the Scarlet Knights only one shot in the fourth quarter. That free position shot at 11:58 was saved by O'Connor, preserving what was a 10-8 Yale lead at the time.
NOTES
- Yale is 7-0 for the first time since starting the 2001 season 8-0.
- The Bulldogs have won seven in a row for the first time since they had a nine-game winning streak to end the regular season in 2007.
- The Bulldogs join Loyola (Maryland) (7-0) and Michigan (10-0) as the last remaining unbeaten teams in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse.
