Bulldogs Pick Up First Win, Split Doubleheader With Towson

TOWSON, Md. -- The Yale baseball team picked up its first win of the season in the second game of a doubleheader against Towson. After falling 3-1 in the opening game of the day, the Bulldogs rebounded with a 1-0 victory in the following contest. Starting pitcher Reid Easterly was outstanding, tossing 7.2 scoreless innings. 

Yale moves to 1-8 overall, while Towson sits at 3-11.

Game 1 -- Towson 3, Yale 1
Scoring Summary
  • Bottom 5th | Elijah Dickerson doubled to bring in the first run of the game for the Tigers.
  • Bottom 6th | Towson earned a second run on a Yale error.
  • Top 8th | The Bulldogs cut into the Towson lead with a sacrifice fly by Chace Chaplin.
  • Bottom 8th | The Tigers earned an insurance run with an RBI single by Cole Stefano.
Game Notes
  • Yale starting pitcher Colton Shaw pitched well, throwing six innings while only allowing one earned run. 
  • Ethan Lewis threw two innings of relief, allowing one run.
  • Chace Chaplin picked up his second RBI of the season.
  • The Bulldogs committed three errors resulting in one unearned run.

Scoring Summary
  • After Colin Sloan walked and advanced to second on a passed ball, Chris DiPrima singled to move Sloan to third. Chaplin singled to bring in Sloan for the game's only run. 
Game Notes
  • Easterly threw 7.2 innings of five-hit baseball. The captain also struck out five. 
  • Chaplin knocked in the game's only run and had both RBIs for the Bulldogs on the day.
  • Davis Hanson tallied his fifth double of the season. The sophomore has hit safely in seven of nine games this year.
