Four Bulldogs Score in Double Digits, but No. 25 Princeton Takes the Win

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Yale women's basketball team took on a Princeton team that was flying high heading into Friday night's game at Jadwin Gym, riding a 10 game winning streak and having just been ranked in top 25 in both national polls. Princeton was all alone atop the Ivy League standings at 5-0. The Bulldogs managed to slow the Tigers down for much of the game, but Princeton eventually had the firepower to pull away for a 79-59 win. Four Bulldogs scored in double digits, with sophomore Kiley Capstraw (16 points) leading the way.

Yale (4-15, 1-4 Ivy League) took an early 11-10 lead and hung with the Tigers throughout the first half, falling behind by no more than six. When the Tigers went up 29-23 with 5:11 to play in the second quarter, Yale scored the next five points coming out of a timeout – a jumper by Capstraw, a layup by junior forward Nyla McGill and a free throw by McGill – to get within one. Princeton eventually went into halftime with a 35-30 lead.

A 12-6 run by Princeton (16-3, 6-0 Ivy League)  to start the third quarter prompted a Yale timeout. That slowed the Tigers down, but they still built their lead steadily through the rest of the quarter, getting it to as many as 21 before a layup by senior forward Brenna McDonald and a free throw by senior guard Jenna Clark in the final minute pulled Yale within 64-46.

Princeton outscored Yale 15-13 in the fourth quarter to finish off the win.
